DINNERS ON A DIME: Cinco de Mayo

ATLANTA, Ga. – This week, Dinners on a Dime features local Cinco de Mayo eats. Every Tuesday Where U Live will choose four favorite eats in your area for you to take your family and friends for a fabulous meal, under $20.

It’s almost Cinco de Mayo in Atlanta and Noche is the place to be. The restaurant will be hosting a block party and offering $5 select tapas, $3 draught Dos Equis, $5 Cuervo margaritas, $7 Sinless Margaritas and $2 Tacatas. Noche is a popular Spanish restaurant amongst ITP dwellers. Visit the restaurant at 1000 Virginia Avenue NE in Atlanta or at its Vinings and Brookhaven locations.

Meehan’s Public House will also host a party at their downtown location. All drinks will be on special for $6 except the margarita which is $7. Select meals will be on special, all night.

ATLANTA – There are tons of fun events going on this weekend, in your area. We’ve listed a few of them for you to check out with your family and friends.

Atlanta by Air, Inc. will be conducting daily aerial sightseeing tours of the Atlanta skyline and key landmarks for up to three passengers. The flights depart from Peachtree DeKalb Airport and are by appointment only. For more information contact Atlanta by Air at (678) 536-9166. The Peachtree DeKalb Airport is located at 1 Corsair Drive in Chamblee.

Go see classic rock icons, WAR, at the Fiesta Atlanta: Cinco De Mayo Celebration at Centennial Olympic Park. The fifth annual festival will be a day-long festival of Latino culture, music, arts, crafts and children’s activities. Centennial Olympic Park is located at 285 International Boulevard.

Take the “From Civil War to Civil Rights Tour” this Friday at Underground Atlanta.

ATLANTA -- The Shuler Hensley Awards for Excellence in High School Musical Theatre were announced at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre on Tuesday, Apr. 26.

Forty-one Greater Atlanta-area high schools from 12 counties and 14 school districts, as well as private schools, participated this year.

Wind down at Fernbank’s Martinis and IMAX event on Friday, April 22. This weekly event usually draws a healthy sized crowd. Most cocktails are about $8 each and tickets to each actual IMAX movie are about $12. Come join Atlanta’s cosmopolitan crowd at this event.

Swim with the Georgia Aquarium’s resident whale shark on Friday, April 22 at 4:30 p.m. Guests will be able to swim at the surface, with an air supply. The aquarium will provide a mask, air, booties and a wetsuit. All of this comes with a $224.95 price tag, talk about a nice Earth Day gift.

ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- Saturday, March 26 from 11-3:30 is the 9th Annual Alpharetta Children’s Festival. It’s held at the Alpharetta Community Center Event Lawn, which is on the backside of the dog park and behind the gymnasium. This is a very family friendly event that has arts, crafts, food, educational activities from the fire and police departments and much more. 

The event is free and open to the public. Some of the premium events like the train or pony ride may charge a nominal amount of money. This event will be cancelled in the event of rain, so check the forecast for Alpharetta. If it does rain there is no make-up date, so cross your fingers for good weather!

ALPHARETTA, GA -- "The Surry with the Fringe on Top" is preparing to stop in Alpharetta.

Oklahoma!, the rollicking musical by Rodgers and Hammerstein, will be presented at Alpharetta High School (3595 Webb Bridge Road, 30005) in March.

Set during the turn of the 20th century, Oklahoma! tells the story of Laurey, a winsome farm girl, and the two men who love her -- a handsome cowboy named Curly and a sinister hired farmhand named Jud Fry.

Michael O'Neal Chamber Singers to Perform in Alpharetta

ALPHARETTA, GA -- With a repertoire spanning centuries and styles, the Michael O'Neal Chamber Singers has emerged as one of the Southeast's finest vocal ensembles.

Now, the 24-member group will appear at Alpharetta Presbyterian Church (180 Academy Street, 30004) for a special performance at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 13. Admission is $10 per person.

The performance is called "Gloria: Expressions of Joy." The term "Gloria" denotes both the joyous second part of the Ordinary of the Roman Catholic Mass and an independent work of the same name.
