Man accused of killing ex in front of their kids

MILTON, Ga. -- A 25-year-old Canton man is accused of killing the mother of his children in front of them.

Christopher Erdman waived his first appearance hearing Monday morning. He faces a number of charges, including murder, aggravated assault, cruelty to children and tampering with evidence.

According to Capt. Shawn McCarty with the Milton Police Department, Erdman shot 25-year-old Shannon Lawrence four times in the face and neck in the parking lot of the Birmingham Crossroads shopping center in Milton on Sunday.

McCarty said the former couple had two children together and used the shopping center as the drop-off point when exchanging custody of the kids.

The couple's children witnessed the shooting, according to McCarty.

Dispatchers received a call of shots fired at around 2 p.m. Officers allegedly found shell casings and a pool of blood in the Birmingham Crossroads parking lot.

After the shooting, Erdman reportedly drove Lawrence to Northside Forsyth Hospital in Cumming, where he was captured by police.

By the time officers arrived at the hospital, Lawrence had died from her gunshot wounds.

Erdman is currently being held in the Fulton County Jail. His bond hearing is scheduled for June 20.
