Donation-based yoga class at Friendship Park

MILTON, Ga. -- The City of Milton's popular yoga provider, Lift Yoga, will offer a donation-based outdoor class Saturday, June 21 in Crabapple's Friendship Community Park. Participants are asked to pay only what they can.

The class, timed to take place under the sun's highest position on the longest day of the year, will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and is open to everyone, regardless of ability. Many poses offered can even be done in a chair, said Kim Saunders, founder of Lift Yoga.

"If you've always wanted to try yoga but were unsure where to start, this is a great opportunity to enjoy the many benefits of this proven and effective mind-clearing exercise," she said. "Be engaged with your community and welcome summer outside in the beautiful evening!"

If inclement weather occurs, the class will take place in Bethwell Community Center, 2695 Hopewell Road.

Fulton County Aviation Community Cultural Center to open June 19

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Fulton County Commissioner Emma I. Darnell, District 5, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners and Fulton County Arts and Culture, will celebrate the Grand Opening of the Fulton County Aviation Community Cultural Center (ACCC) on Thursday, June 19 at 10 a.m.

The grand opening celebration will kick off three days of activities organized to introduce the new facility to the community and increase awareness of the center, its programming and activities. 

The center is located at 3900 Aviation Circle, Atlanta on the grounds of Fulton County Airport – Brown Field.  It is designed as a community gathering place and will focus on the following types of programming:

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Stress management and mental health discussions are planned during the first week in June at two Fulton County senior multipurpose facilities.

The Dorothy C. Benson Senior Multipurpose Complex will host a mental health workshop sponsored by the Renaissance on Peachtree on Thursday, June 5. The discussion will be facilitated by Leslie Sessley, a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) with the Link Counseling Center. The two-hour presentation begins at 10 a.m.  The Benson Multipurpose Complex is located at 6500 Vernon Woods Drive in Sandy Springs.  For more information about this event, citizens should contact Lila Womack, Life Enrichment Coordinator at 404-613-4900.

New Milton Library to break ground Thursday

New Milton Library to break ground Thursday

MILTON, Ga. -- The Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System will break ground on its new Milton Library this week.

The 25,000-square-foot library will be located at 855 Mayfield Road. A groundbreaking ceremony will be held Thursday, May 29 at 11 a.m. The building is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2015.

The library system said it expects to achieve LEED Silver on all of its upcoming library projects throughout the county, including the Milton Library. Learn more at afpls.org.

MILTON, Ga. -- The City of Milton Public Works Department and Georgia Department of Transportation are planning the widening of Ga. 9 from Windward Parkway to the Forsyth County line, including Bethany Bend intersection improvements, and have planned an open house to gather feedback on the proposed concepts.

This public information open house will be held Wednesday, May 21 at Council Chambers of Milton City Hall. The open house will last from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be no formal presentation.

"The meeting will allow the public to view the proposed project, ask questions and comment on the proposals," said Sara Leaders, PE, transportation engineer for the City of Milton. "We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to let us know your view of the concepts."

Fulton County seniors practiced their line dancing skills during the first Fulton County Senior Multipurpose Facility Community Day celebration.  Community day is an annual event that is held in May of each year at the county’s four senior multipurpose facilities in observance of Older Americans Month. The HJC Bowden Senior Multipurpose facility also offered a tai chi demonstration, face painting for children, a basketball hoop for boys and girls to practice shooting hoops, mini-train rides for families, food and other entertainment.  Additional Community Days for seniors, their friends and families will be held at the following senior multipurpose facilities:

Fulton Workforce Development to host recruitment at North Fulton Career Center

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -- The Fulton County Office of Workforce Development will host a Hire Dynamics recruitment at the North Fulton Career Center on Wednesday, May 7 from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

The recruitment is a partnership between Hire Dynamics and Jewish Family and Career Services. The positions to be filled are in and around Alpharetta.

The North Fulton Career Center is located inside the North Fulton Service Center located at 7741 Roswell Road in Sandy Springs.

The jobs for which Hire Dynamics will be recruiting include:

• Production/Assembly -- Must be able to work in a fast paced environment and able to stand for entire 12 hour shift. Previous experience in manufacturing or assembly preferred. (25 openings)
