Communiteen to hold gift exchange, cookie decorating

MILTON, Ga. -- Milton's Better Together and Communiteen will work together Saturday, Dec. 14 to host a teen gift exchange, decorate cookies and collect gift donations for North Fulton Community Charities.

This event will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Bethwell Community Center, located at 2695 Hopewell Road.

There is a $10 limit on the gift exchange, said Ansley Bradwell, co-founder of Communiteen, and there will be plenty to eat and drink.

MILTON, Ga. -- Perk up those ears for sleigh bells and pack the mittens, because the City of Milton will once again provide three holiday events for residents: the fifth annual City of Milton Tree Lighting on Friday, Nov. 29; the sixth annual Christmas in Crabapple on Saturday, Dec. 7 in partnership with the Crabapple Community Association (CCA); and the second annual Mayor's Holiday Open House hosted by City Council on Sunday, Dec. 15.

Milton's holiday season will kick off Friday, Nov. 29 with the fifth annual City of Milton Tree Lighting ceremony from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the corner of Ga. 9 and Webb Road.

ATLANTA -- Don't be alarmed if you see a whole bunch of people running down Georgia 400 this weekend.

The Pay the Last Toll road race will be held Sunday, Nov. 17 at 8:30 a.m., and gives athletes one last opportunity to see the infamous toll booths before they are demolished.

Runners will begin at the Glenridge Connector in Sandy Springs and run south to Phipps Plaza. When they reach the toll booths, they will throw in their final 50 cents. All proceeds will go to charity.

Northbound lanes of Ga. 400 will be closed for the race from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday.

Georgia Department of Transportation crews will also spend part of the weekend tearing down a MARTA pedestrian bridge on southbound Ga. 400.

Senior Center hosts Thanksgiving feast

MILTON, Ga. -- The Milton Senior Center will host a Thanksgiving party for Milton seniors Thursday, Nov. 21 -- complete with yoga and bingo.

The Senior Center, located at 3315 Francis Road, provides active seniors the opportunity to socialize, learn and maintain special relationships through weekly trips, exercise, dancing, table games and much more.

Festivities begin at 10 a.m. with seated yoga taught by a certified instructor. Turkey Bingo will follow at 11 a.m. Lunch, including roast turkey and all the trimmings, will be served at noon.

"Please feel free to join us and give thanks for all the wonderful things we enjoy in our lives," said Melinda Ross, manager of the Milton Senior Center. "We can be active, enjoy a game and celebrate our fellowship over a warm and healthy meal."

ATLANTA -- Fulton County Cooperative Extension will offer Affordable Care Act information sessions to assist residents, small businesses and their employees through the new Healthcare Marketplace.

Interested parties are encouraged to register for a free information session that will be led by a University of Georgia (UGA) health navigator assigned to Fulton County to assist with helping individuals and small businesses complete eligibility and enrollment forms during. Residents should call (404) 332-2400 to register for a session.

Health Navigator, housed under UGA Cooperative Extension, are able to help residents decide on the best health insurance to meet their needs and will help them apply—either electronically or by paper—to establish eligibility, enroll in coverage and potentially qualify for an insurance affordability program.
