FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Every month, the Fulton County Board of Education holds meetings for members of the community.

The events allow Fulton County residents to have a voice in the goings-on within the school district.

October's meeting dates and locations include:

Crabapple Fest hits Milton Saturday, Oct. 5

MILTON, Ga. -- The changing leaves and temperatures of October in Milton can mean but one thing: It's time for Crabapple Fest!

Held Saturday, Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in historic downtown Crabapple, Crabapple Fest will see the City of Milton and non-profit Crabapple Community Association (CCA) combine their two popular events - the 5,000-person Milton Roundup and 10,000-person Crossroads at Crabapple Antique and Arts Festival - into one massive destination festival.

The best from each event will greet the community, including:

* Antiques and art from hundreds of juried vendors
* A music and entertainment stage with local and touring acts, plus roaming musicians
* Games, rides and activities for kids
* For the first time, beer and wine in the festival grounds

Fulton's Fall SPARC Atlanta Clinics seek to enhance the health and quality of life for older adults

ATLANTA -- Fulton County’s Fall SPARC (Sickness Prevention Achieved through Regional Collaboration) Atlanta preventive healthcare screenings for older adults begin on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

Citizens who participate in SPARC Atlanta clinics can take advantage of health screenings, nutrition counseling and health education. Since the initiation of SPARC Atlanta in 2006, more than 7,300 older adults have visited SPARC Clinics to obtain health screenings as well as obtain information regarding Medicare Assistance, employment assistance, Food Stamp Assistance, nutrition education and dental education.

Fulton County Cooperative Extension sponsors free workshop for budding entrepreneurs

ATLANTA -- Have you ever considered starting your own home-based business? Fulton County Cooperative Extension will sponsor a free workshop on Starting a Home-Based Business on Tuesday, Sept. 24 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System’s Central Library, 1 Margaret Mitchell Square, Suite 109, Atlanta.

Participants will gain valuable information to help them start and maintain a successful home-based business. Specific topics will include how to identify fraud and scams billed as business opportunities, space and time needs, identifying factors that contribute to success and much more.  

Fulton County Cooperative Extension hosts monthly classes on a variety of topics such as nutrition, financial management, diabetes and gardening. Classes are held in locations throughout the county.  Call 404-332-2400 for more information.

Fulton County Housing Information Session focuses on supportive housing for veterans

ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- Veterans or family members of veterans who want to learn about supportive housing for homeless veterans can participate in a Wednesday, Sept. 25 Housing Information Session.

The Veterans Housing Services session will be held from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. in the Alpharetta Branch Library located at 238 Canton Street. Iola Green, Director of the Housing and Urban Development/Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Program (HUD/VASH), will serve as the presenter.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development/Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) Program combines Housing Choice Voucher (HCV)  and rental assistance for homeless Veterans with case management and clinical services provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). VA provides these services for participating Veterans at VA medical centers (VAMCs) and community-based outreach clinics.

North Fulton Service Center to host information session on how to guard against scams

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -- The North Fulton Service Center will host an information session to help seniors to avoid scams.

The session will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 10 from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. The North Fulton Service Center is located at 7741 Roswell Road in Sandy Springs. The Fulton County Housing and Human Services Department, Office of Housing and Community Development will sponsor the program.

Scams that often target seniors include but are not limited to telemarketing, reverse mortgages, healthcare/health insurance, home and auto repair. This session will provide information to help seniors to identify, prevent and report fraudulent and deceptive schemes.
