Race this weekend: Run for Cover

MILTON, Ga. -- Milton High School will host a 5K and 1-mile run this weekend.

Run for Cover will be Saturday, Jan. 31 at the school. Race day registration opens at 10:30 a.m., the mile run will be at 11:30 a.m. and the 5K will be off and running at noon.

Both race courses begin and end at the Milton High football stadium. The 5K includes a loop around the school and additional distance on nearby paved streets, including Freemanville Road.

All runners will receive long-sleeved race T-shirts. The top three male and female finishers, masters finishers and finishers in each age group will be given special awards.

Registration is $30. Proceeds from the race will benefit the Milton High men's lacrosse program.

Participants are also asked to bring an article of winter clothing or a non-perishable food item to be donated to North Fulton Community Charities.

(WXIA) -- Monday night was the regional semifinals for high school basketball.

Walton vs. Milton
Last time Walton played Milton, Milton won by 14 points. Tonight, the Eagles and Raiders were back at it.

Zach Hoskins on the break for Milton, knocks it down for three. While Walton's Nik Wells goes up for three - no good. But Blake Poole is there to clean it up.

Walton upsets Milton 67-66, so the Raiders advance to the region championship to take on the winner of the next game.

Wheeler vs. Etowah
Wheeler and the host Etowah -- Wheeler on the fast break, with Jaylen Brown to Elijah Staley, and the Mississippi State commit slams it home!

Etowah hung around, with Trevor Head underneath the basket for two. But Wheeler responded quickly with senior guard Avery Patterson going up for the tree!

Wheeler remained undefeated after downing Etowah 76-74.

ATLANTA -- The latest edition of the USA Today Metro Atlanta Super 25 Boys Basketball Poll is ready for inspection.

A past state champion joins our list this week, but the name at the top stays the same as last week.

The Spartans of Greater Atlanta Christian School stay unbeaten and on top. Allatoona is next, with Columbia and Wheeler in third and fourth. North Gwinnett is fifth headed into a region showdown with Norcross.

Tucker, Miller Grove, Norcross, Milton and Berkmar round out the top 10.

Past state champion South Atlanta joins the poll this week at number 23.

ATLANTA -- The latest edition of the USA Today Metro Atlanta Super 25 High School Football is here, just in time for the playoffs. The Wolves are still leaders of the pack, as the first round of the postseason begins.

The Buford Wolves are still number one as they open the state playoffs at home against Sonoraville. Sandy Creek is next with Carrollton number 3 this week. North Gwinnett rises from 7 to 4, and Lovett completes the top 5.

Tucker finished the regular season unbeaten for the sixth time in the past nine seasons. The Tigers are number 6 this week and will open post season play against Heritage, Conyers at Adams Stadium. Gainesville, Collins Hill, Norcross, and Creekside round out the top 10.

Eagle's Landing Christian climbs from 14 to 11 this week, and Archers is up from 21 to 18.

McEachern slides from 9 to 17 after a loss to Hillgrove, and Alpharetta drops from 19 to 23.

There are two new faces that join this week's list. Both teams are unbeaten, but there is still no change at the top.

The North Gwinnett Bulldogs still lead the way as they head for a region showdown with Mill Creek. Buford is next, with Carrollton, Lovejoy, and Eagle's Landing Christian making up the top 5.

Sandy Creek is 6 this week, with Norcross, McEachern, Lovett and Gainesville rounding out the top 10.

Collins Hill moves up from 20 to 14 after beating Peachtree Ridge. Stephenson rises from 22 to 15 and will face region rival Tucker this week. St. Pius climbs from 21 to 16.

Milton drops from 12 to 18 this week and North Cobb slides from 16 to 21.

New faces this week are Etowah at 17, Calhoun returning to the poll at 24 and Creekside appearing for the first time this season at 25.
