MILTON, Ga. -- Get ready to celebrate our planet and the many fun things we can do to keep it healthy, because on Saturday, April 18, the City of Milton and Milton Grows Green are proud to the present the 2015 Milton Earth Day Festival.

Now in its sixth year, this Earth Day Festival is shaping up to be the best ever! Held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in beautiful Crabapple at Friendship Community Park (12785 Birmingham Highway), this year's festival features food, family friendly entertainment, environmental vendors, and much more. Parking is available at Crabapple First Baptist Church and Crabapple Crossing Elementary. 

Thanks to returning presenting sponsor Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, Milton Grows Green is able to bring a wide variety of activities educational exhibits and environmentally friendly products and services to the community, including:

Bell Memorial Park groundbreaking Aug. 8

Bell Memorial Park groundbreaking Aug. 8

MILTON, Ga. -- The City of Milton invites the community to the Bell Memorial Park expansion project groundbreaking ceremony Friday, Aug. 8 at 11 a.m.

Bell Memorial Park is located at 15245 Bell Park Road.

This ceremony will mark the kick-off of the $9.4 million expansion of Bell Memorial from a 12-acre park with four baseball fields to a nearly 30-acre multi-use facility with both passive and active recreation options.

The new park design will have four dedicated diamond (baseball/softball) fields with centerfield dimensions of 180, 200, 200 and 280 feet. There will also be two rectangular fields lined for football, soccer and lacrosse. The second field can also be set up as a 200-foot, fifth diamond field.

Programming between spring, summer and fall will vary the configuration of four diamonds and two rectangular fields versus five diamonds and one rectangular field.

New Milton Library to break ground Thursday

MILTON, Ga. -- The Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System will break ground on its new Milton Library this week.

The 25,000-square-foot library will be located at 855 Mayfield Road. A groundbreaking ceremony will be held Thursday, May 29 at 11 a.m. The building is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2015.

The library system said it expects to achieve LEED Silver on all of its upcoming library projects throughout the county, including the Milton Library. Learn more at afpls.org.

Fulton County Cooperative Extension sponsors free workshop for budding entrepreneurs

ATLANTA -- Have you ever considered starting your own home-based business? Fulton County Cooperative Extension will sponsor a free workshop on Starting a Home-Based Business on Tuesday, Sept. 24 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System’s Central Library, 1 Margaret Mitchell Square, Suite 109, Atlanta.

Participants will gain valuable information to help them start and maintain a successful home-based business. Specific topics will include how to identify fraud and scams billed as business opportunities, space and time needs, identifying factors that contribute to success and much more.  

Fulton County Cooperative Extension hosts monthly classes on a variety of topics such as nutrition, financial management, diabetes and gardening. Classes are held in locations throughout the county.  Call 404-332-2400 for more information.

Watch 'The Sandlot' at Friendship Park

MILTON, Ga. -- School may be back in session, but you can still enjoy those warm summer nights with a great family film in the park.

That's why the City of Milton will close out its "Family, Fun, Flicks & Flurries" summer event series at Friendship Community Park in Crabapple on Saturday, Aug. 24 with perennial family favorite The Sandlot presented by B 98.5 FM's B at the Movies.

The park is located at 12785 Birmingham Highway in Crabapple.

Like The Goonies before it, the film will be shown at dusk on a huge, two-story inflatable movie screen in high-definition. Beforehand, there will be all sorts of activities, games and concessions starting at 7 p.m.

Concessions will be available, so just bring your lawn chair, blanket and bug spray.

It should be the perfect way to end your summer -- so come on out and get to know your neighbors.

MILTON, Ga. -- What's better than a heaping helping of cold, fresh snow on a sweltering August Saturday? Nothing!

That's why the city of Milton is proud to present "Back to School: Snow Tubing in the Park" Saturday, Aug. 10 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. as part of its "Family, Fun, Flicks & Flurries" summer event series at Friendship Community Park in Crabapple.

Free yoga class Thursday at Friendship Park

MILTON, Ga. -- Don't forget that the City of Milton's popular yoga provider, Lift Yoga Therapy, will offer a free outdoor class tomorrow, Thursday, June 20 in Crabapple's Friendship Community Park.

The class, timed to take place under the sun's highest position on the longest day of the year, will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and is open to everyone, regardless of ability. The 108 poses offered can even be done in a chair.

If inclement weather occurs, the class will take place in Bethwell Community Center.
