MILTON, Ga. -- The City of Milton will begin its annual city-wide road patching and repair projects on Wednesday, May 18.

The work is expected to last 30 days, depending on weather. Crews will work from 9 a.m.

City pools open on Memorial Day at 11:00 a.m. Daily rates are $4 for adults and $2 for children and senior citizens. Facilities include:

WEEKEND EVENTS: Atlanta Gives Back, Pet Parade, Dead Prez

ATLANTA – There are tons of fun events going on this weekend, in your area. We’ve listed a few of them for you to check out with your family and friends.

Join 11Alive and the Atlanta Humane Society for the 21st Annual Pet Parade on Saturday, May 7. The parade starts at Piedmont Park at 11:00 a.m. and features 11Alive’s own, John Gerard and Chesley McNeil as the Grand Marshalls. Registration for pets starts at 9:00 a.m. and the event ends around 1:00 p.m. Registration for a pet and a parent is $35, on Saturday morning. Piedmont Park is located at 1071 Piedmont Avenue in Atlanta.

Revolutionary hip-hop duo, Dead Prez will headline a concert at Masquerade on Friday, May 6. The two-some, composed of stic.man and M-1 are known for their “raw” and “in-your-face” style of lyricism.

Hopewell, Francis, Cogburn open house set for Apr. 28

MILTON, Ga. -- The Milton Public Works Department will hold an open house from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Apr. 28 to discuss and listen to public comment on the improvements planned for the intersection of Hopewell, Francis and Cogburn Roads.

The meeting will take place in the Executive Conference Room at City Hall (13000 Deerfield Parkway, 30004).

"We are looking at several alternatives for improving this problematic intersection," said Sara Leaders, transportation engineer for the City of Milton. "First, though, we want to hear the public's opinions and determine the solution supported by the community before we proceed with the design process."

Keep up-to-date with all Milton intersection projects.

Leaders said no presentations will be made during the informal open house.

North Fulton Golden Games begin May 4

North Fulton Golden Games begin May 4

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -- The 17th annual North Fulton Golden Games will kick off on Wednesday, May 4.

This event is open to area adults who are at least 50 years old. There is a $12 registration fee, which includes a T-shirt and picnic lunch on opening day.

The Games will begin with check-in at 9 a.m. and an opening ceremony at 9:30 a.m. at the Roswell Adult Recreation Center (830 Grimes Bridge Road, 30075). Track and field events are scheduled to start after the ceremony.

The 2011 Golden Games will also include the second annual Wii video game bowling tournament, and a dance competition and exposition with dance-offs in the foxtrot, waltz, tango, cha-cha and swing.

New events include Bunco, a diving contest, tennis, three-on-three basketball and a softball skill challenge.

The awards luncheon will be held on Thursday, May 26 at 10 a.m. at the Dorothy C.

MILTON, Ga. -- There is still time to volunteer, sponsor or have a business be part of the second annual Milton Earth Day Festival on Saturday, Apr. 16.

Among this year's many attractions will be:

* Rides in wagons, horse-drawn carriages and electric cars
* Live music
* Arts, crafts and games
* A farmers market and gardening demonstration
* Local vendors selling environmentally friendly products
* Shoe recycling courtesy of Recycle for a Cure

The festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Birmingham Park (750 Hickory Flat Road, 30004).

Library meeting planned for Milton

MILTON, Ga. -- Have an idea about what the Milton City Library should include?

On Tuesday, Apr. 12 at 7 p.m., the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System will hold at meeting at Milton City Hall (13000 Deerfield Parkway, 30004) to discuss just that.

"Community input has been and will continue to be of critical importance to the success of the Library Bond program, and a successful Milton Branch Library project is one where the residents of Milton have had the opportunity to provide their input on what they would like to see in their new library," said John F. Szabo, director of the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System.
