New school to be named Cambridge High

MILTON, Ga. -- The Fulton County School Board has approved the name Cambridge High School for the new school under construction on Bethany Bend in Milton.

Cambridge was the top choice of two names submitted by a panel of students, parents and staff; the other possibility was Providence High School.

The new name has special significance to the Milton community:

C: The "C" in "Cambridge" honors the Cogburn family, the original owners of the school site.

A: The "A" represents the students who will leave Alpharetta High School to attend Cambridge High.

M: The "M" is for the Milton High School students who will now attend Cambridge High.

BRIDGE: This "bridge" is both metaphorical and physical; it stands for the students who will come together from all over North Fulton to create a new school community, and also represents the 126-foot bridge on the school's property.

Cambridge High School will open in August 2012. Students have already voted for their school colors to be blue and white, and for their mascot to be the Bears.
