ATLANTA -- For this week's edition of Best Spots, we have compiled a list of best places to run for beginners, intermediate and advanced runners.

Recently, running has risen in popularity due to people discovering the different benefits it offers. Running has been proven to lessen stress, aid in weight loss and can serve as a method of meditation. According to the Seattle Times, 26.5 million people in the US run 50 days out of the year.

  • Beginners Routes

The Silver Comet Trail is known as “the only truly flat place you can run in Atlanta”. The trail starts near Mavell Road in Smyrna and runs all the way to the Georgia/Alabama line, near Cedartown and Esom. The trail is a favorite among runners searching for a leisurely stroll and good scenery.

Fall baseball registration begins next week

MILTON, Ga. -- Online registration for Hopewell Youth Association's (HYA) fall 2011 recreational baseball season will begin Monday, June 13 at the group's website.

The registration process is split into three parts.

The first, for Milton residents, opens June 13.

The second, which begins Monday, June 27, is for HYA veteran players who do not live in Milton.

The third, kicking off Monday, July 11, is open registration for everyone, regardless of residence or past league history.

Registration will close Sunday, July 24. A $25 late fee will be charged for any registrations after this date.

HYA, a longstanding non-profit organization, schedules and programs baseball activities at Milton's Bell Memorial Park (15245 Bell Park Road) through a joint agreement with the city.

ATLANTA – For this week’s installment of Best Spots, we've compiled a list of the best golf courses in for you to take a break and tee it off while the weather is nice.

The Dunwoody Country Club facility offers 18-holes of golf. The course is nicknamed “Dunwoody” and it features 7,002 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course is composed of Bermuda grass and it was designed by Willard C. Byrd of the ASGCA.

Membership to this club is invite only as it is seen as a premiere course in Atlanta. The course is located at 1600 Dunwoody Club Drive.

North Fulton Course was first designed in 1937 by Chandler Egan in collaboration with Walter Hagen and Atlanta's greatest golfer, Bobby Jones. The course is located in the heart of Chastain Park, Atlanta's largest park.

The course is also on the site of an ancient Creek Indian Village.

BUCKHEAD, Ga. -- For this week’s installment of Best Spots, we've compiled a list of the best summer camps for your children, this year.

Camp Best Friends is accepting applications for the 2011 summer season. The program has been serving children ages 5-16 throughout the metro area for about 30 years. The program is comprised of eight specialty camps, 12 day camps, two traditional teen camps and one pilot teen camp. Camp starts on May 31 and runs until July 22; an extended camp will be held at Adams Park, Peachtree Hills and Rosel Fann Parks and they will start July 25 and August 5. Camp costs $65 per week/per child for Atlanta resident and City of Atlanta employees and $110 for non-residents.

YMCA Centers are the nation’s largest provider of child care services and there are a number of YMCA centers around the metro area.

MILTON, Ga. -- The Milton Parks and Recreation Department will hold two summer camp open houses on Wednesday, May 25.

The informational event for Camp Joyful Soles will take place from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., while the Camp Bethwell open house will follow immediately from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Both meetings will be at City Hall (13000 Deerfield Parkway, 30004).
