Alpharetta DPS Announces Safety Checkpoint Results

ALPHARETTA, GA -- The Alpharetta Department of Public Safety is announcing the results from two safety checkpoints recently held in the cities of Alpharetta and Milton.

Commercial vehicle enforcement officers from Alpharetta, Roswell and Winder assisted the Milton Police Department with a commercial vehicle safety checkpoint in the City of Milton. Twenty-six commercial vehicles were subjected to various levels of inspections.

Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers issued 18 citations for violations, placed 11 vehicles out of service for serious infractions, arrested four drivers and placed four drivers out of service, preventing them from operating a commercial vehicle for a period of time.

The Alpharetta DPS also held a multi-agency safety checkpoint in Alpharetta with officers from the Georgia State Patrol, Gwinnett County Police, Sandy Springs Police and the Dawson County Sheriff's Office.

During this checkpoint, 1,018 vehicles were checked. Thirty-five individuals were arrested for various offenses, including DUI, driving without a license, suspended license, drug violations and wanted persons. Sixty-three citations, along with 11 written warnings, were issued.

Gary George, Director of the Alpharetta DPS, says, "We conduct these safety checkpoints to ensure our citizens and visitors can travel safely upon our roadways. I am grateful for the cooperation of our local law enforcement agencies for their dedication in promoting highway safety."
