ALPHARETTA, GA -- Have a used bicycle that's just gathering dust? How about an outgrown bicycle that's going into storage because of a new holiday gift?

Don't get rid of it -- give it to PAL!

The Alpharetta Police Athletics and Activities League (PAL), a non-profit youth organization building leaders for tomorrow, is holding a bike drive at PAL Gym in the Eagle Village Youth Complex behind Alpharetta City Hall (2 Main Street, Alpharetta, 30004).

The aim is to procure enough bicycles for a youth bicycle riding program.

To help, simply bring a gently used bicycle to the PAL Gym on one of two dates:

* Thursday, Jan. 6 -- 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
* Saturday, Jan. 8 -- 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

PAL will take care of the rest.

"Bringing a bicycle program to PAL has been one of my goals since taking over the organization," said Officer Laurie Nicholson, CEO of PAL. "Alpharetta's beautiful and distinctive Greenway is a close, safe location where the PAL kids can go, and all we need now are the bicycles."

To donate money to help with the launch of the program or purchase helmets and T-shirts for the kids, visit the PAL Web site or attend the bicycle collection.
